Meta has broadened its collaboration with the NBA and WNBA, according to a blog post from the company.

Meta intends to introduce over 50 virtual reality (VR) games on its Meta Quest platform. As part of this enhanced partnership, Meta aims to provide users with access to 52 live NBA games, immersing fans in a unique and interactive basketball viewing experience.

As part of these offerings, users will be able to enjoy 180-degree monoscopic 5 virtual reality games in Xtadium and Meta Horizon Worlds. The partnership extends to include WNBA, NBA G League, and NBA 2K League games, which will be available throughout the season.

Furthermore, Meta Horizon Worlds will provide users with access to key highlights, summaries, and archival content of the games. It’s worth noting that this content can be accessed by visiting the NBA Arena within Meta Horizon Worlds starting today.

In addition to game broadcasts, users will have the opportunity to engage with mini-games that allow them to support their favorite teams. It has been announced that users with an NBA League Pass subscription will gain access to additional content within the application in the future.

NBA licensed Avatar skins

In addition, it’s important to mention that Meta and the NBA have entered into a new agreement to introduce NBA-licensed skins in Meta’s Avatar Store. These skins will become available for users to experience in the coming weeks. Purchased skins from the Avatar Store can be displayed on avatars across Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and Meta Quest.

Furthermore, let’s recall that Mark Zuckerberg announced the launch of a specialized Avatars Store for Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger through a Facebook post in June 2022. This store allows users to buy digital clothing to personalize their avatars.

It should also be noted that avatars, as part of the Meta app suite, were introduced to WhatsApp in December 2022. However, the company has not yet disclosed any details about the availability of these skins in the Avatar Store on WhatsApp.
